About the Department

Government Arts College for Women at Nilakkottai had a fully functional English Department when it was started in 1998. It was to teach the Part-II English in its initial stages but started shepherding its own flock of B.A. Literature students in 2013. Subsequently Post graduation courses followed in the year 2017-18 and presently it is enhanced into a centre for research with the commencement of M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes.
     We have about 155 students in the Under Graduation course in English Literature and 26 students pursuing their Post Graduation course in English in the present academic year. We have been approved to start M.Phil with 2 scholars and Ph.D with 8 scholars in the present academic year.

  • To make the students even the rustic and unprivileged to speak in the Universal language, English.

  • To enable the students to obtain an edge in their employability with English.


Objectives

  • To develop new strategies in teaching English Literature and language to the foreign learners.

  • To make learning process easier for the students by using modern gadgets like LCD projector and computers
